Seeking a Backup Truck
I nixed the Tacoma. I had forgotten that Toyota suffered sludging problems in the truck engines and lied about it for years. Screw that. Also, after having been involved in a collision I pay heed to crash/safety data, which is the main reason I bought the Ram. The Taco scores poorly in protecting the driver's left ankle and shin whereas the Ranger performs very well.
On a side note - This sounded too good to be true: http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/ctd/3380255477.html
It turns out a friend of mine in Spokane saw the very same ad.

I found another 4x4 Ranger with a 3.0L, but the price is super, super, low.

I am suspicious as to why.

It's definately a scam. For some reason most of the scam ads like that one are listed by dealer instead of by owner. You can usually tell by the wording of the ad and also they never include a phone #. A dealer is going to have their # or business info on the ad.
Just get a full size 3rd Gen Ram. They are cheap enough in the '03-'05 flavors as they are so plentiful.
I never really saw the benefit to having a "small" truck. I've owned a couple and drove a few as company vehicles. One company truck I drove for two years was a Ranger, 4x2, manual stick, 2.3L and it never got better than 14 MPG. Had a mid '90s Nissan V6 4x4 as a daily driver when my full size truck was a Furd Diesel. It was solid as hell, never had an issue of any kind and even hauled my bass boat to tourneys a few times when the Furd was laid up BUT it never got any better than 16 MPGs.
Hell, my Hemi averages close to 15 MPG and that's with 4" of lift, 35" tires and weighing in at close to 7000 lbs.
So from a gas consumption standpoint, I've NEVER seen the benefit of a cramped, small truck with limited storage and bed capacity...
