Is it possible to pull my 46re and put in the 47re with out mods to the original equipment? Reason I'm asking is because my 46 re trans is failing

 

47 will not work without a custom bellhousing.

 

You can put most of the 47/48 RE internals into the 46RE case though......

I don't know for sure exactly which parts interchange... but, MonteC has a thread in the FAQ section, (montec's trans corner) on page six of that thread, he has a list of parts for a member that regularly towed a 6K trailer. I have an annotated list derived from that, that tells ya what the parts actually are...... If you want a copy, just PM me your email address, and I will send it off to ya. Mine includes prices, but, I am going to guess they are WAY out of date. (think I did it like two years ago..... maybe longer.)

 

I don't want to tow anything just a reliable trans that would fit. Mine starts out in 3rd

 

A 46re is the only drop in replacement. You will have to have one built stronger/with 47/48re internals if you want it to be any better than the problematic stock transmissions.
