Truck hard to steer
My 2000 stopped steering. How do i know if its the power steering pump or the lower unit?
It has fluid. I had the power steering pump cap loose while i was trying to muscle it into my garage and fluid blasted out. lol messy.
I dont want to just buy a new pump on a trial and error basis. cash is tight.
Can anything go wrong with the lower gear box??
Thanks!!

Thanks I'll take a closer look at the junk under the nose.
The wheel does turn just VERY hard.
Shaft is together just rusty.
Pully spining like normal.
I had a nasty squeel when i first tsarted it . I thought that was the big belt.
No leaks.
I'm going to get the nose off the floor and see if it is still hard to turn. I would think it would be easyer???
This is my first time messing with power steering.

+1 for the QCluuuuuuuuv!
Yeah, when pump goes out you can actually still drive/steer. How heavy do you think the truck is?
The pressure lines are on there pretty good. Upon removal of the pump, hopefully you follow your Haynes/Chilton manual or find the downloadable copy of the Factory Service manual in the DIY subforum section.
Take the pump to a shop that typically for free will pull the pulley if you don't have a proper puller. New pump will have means to put pulley back on on and oring for pressure line.
Napa has em good.
