when it comes to painting you got to get a good gun if you want to lay good paint job. i know my dad has a 1 gun that he would use for spraying primer or cheap plain paint but would not use good or metallic paint. if he is using a good or metallic paint he will use a good quality gun that cost him quite a bit of money many years ago.
Here i find another ridiculous statement with zero backing....the definition of perfection may vary greatly from person to person...im sure your grandpas brush perfect finish wouldnt be my perfect finish...not without a whole lot of sanding and polishing...

A "good gun" is all about the atomization...plain an simple...good atomization of material...good finish....period.

Vwanddodge, I think a turbine system would be great for you...it will eliminate the compressor concerns....look into to the cost and availability of replacement parts, needles etc. when making your decision.

I couldn't get past five minutes of that video. He talks like Obama, "Uhh....ahhh...Uhhhh, uhhh...DUHHHHH", rambles, and you would think Michael J Fox is holding the camera.

This one is better:

lmao...i know...it was rough..but he did say some good things for you to consider...

Watch the vid from 6:40 to 7:30 I think this is the best min. from this vid.

If you can handle 5 min...watch from 3:45 to 7:30

Your vid is product specific...i wasnt trying to isolate you to a particular product just yet.

Interesting info. So the turbine system looks like it uses and old style paint gun, but I assume it may not be the same. VW if you go this route ley us know how it works. I watched the videos posted and found more on You Tube. It will be a while before I get garage suitable to start painting again (open gables) and the weather is too unstable lately - rainy two or three dyas a week, and humidity here is much more than west Texas.

And Baileys, I agree. Brush finish isn;t the same without compounding. Only advantage is heavier coat, which may not always be best!

There is no discussion. I'm committed to buying the turbine system from my acquaintance this spring. A friend of mine has a 1990s Ford Ranger with over 200K miles on it, that has served him well. I mentioned this to him, asking if he'd be game using his truck for practice. No problem!

I'll definitely post results once I get some projects underway.

I'll be anxiously awaiting the results.

There are a number of car clubs here in the Austin area, most of which are rods, customs, and restorations. When I get time I plant to visit some of them and see what they are all doing. I'll be looking at what some of them do for painting as well.

I'm an auto body tech, all we use is SATA with BASF products. The quality of the guns is incredible and even as a novice painter, I'm able to produce excellent results.

I have two of the purple HF guns at home for weekend projects... Believe it or not, they shoot pretty darn well for what they are. Excellent primer guns and will lay down solid base colors and single stage pretty well too. Wouldn't recommend one for clear or metallics though, and the cups are a pain to clean.

The ONLY thing the HF guns are good for is primer. Theres no way in h3ll I would use them for any kind of finish work.
