I know someone who restores Mercedes-Benz who recommends this unit: http://www.tptools.com/p/2994,381_Sh...Spray-Gun.html

I'm not so certain I want to spend that kind of coin; however, I am a stickler for quality and am planning to paint my tractor first and possibly a couple of cars afterward. So, who has some recommendation for something the weekend warrior car use that will also produce great results.

Don't bother recommending any of the trash sold by Harbor Freight. I won't even step inside of those stores.

I am by far no expert on paint guns.. I will be picking up my first one here in a few months... I would think that having a compressor would be a little bit better of a choice.. This is something I was planning on looking into when it came time for my purchase.. I dont want to go overboard on price since this is something that wont get much use.. Only planning on doing my hood and some other body parts.... I was looking into a gun from Tractor supply.. They have some painting guns there that seem to be fairly decent and differ in price range.. I agree about never stepping foot in Harbor Freight.. I wanna be able to have a reliable gun I can use more than once..

One thing I have been confused on is if I want a pressure fed gun or a gravity fed gun.. As my compressor is old and isnt good for constant use..

This is the gun I was looking at..

I to would like a little bit of insight from others who have knowledge and experience.. Sorry Dub I dont mean to threadjack.. Just want to have a little more knowledge on the subject.

Gravity feed by and large have relatively small capacity paint containers..... pressure feed guys can get truly ridiculous about it. (measured in gallons....) I prefer the pressure feed, simply because you can paint at any angle, and it just works. Don't have to worry about spilling out of the cup, or whathaveyou.

The one by TSC isnt bad. Not the best either. But itll do the job, decently. The HF guns are fine for primer.

If you want a great gun, you can never go wrong with SATA. Pricey, but worth it for the quality, if you can afford one. For a tractor or personal vehicle touch up, the TSC one would work fine. If looking to do "customer" cars, Id go with SATA if at all possible.

P.S.- I am (well was, expired this last Dec.) ASE certified for Auto Body Paint, and this is my opinion as others may disagree.

My only issue with that though is I am not sure if my compressor is up to the job.. Its only a 25 gallon tank on there.. Guess I may have to start looking at the specs for what a gun would need and what my compressor can handle.

Only problem with pressure feed is if the airline was to pop off (happened to me before) you get a straight stream of paint thatll f@ck up your paint job quick.

Oh, one more tip, and very important, make sure you have filters or a dryer to remove the moisture from the airline.

+1 for SATA. I know quite a few people around here that paint and that's all they'll use.

You're the kind of person I want input from.

Thanks.

+1 more on SATA. Check www/autobodytoolmart.com

Good quality equip and supplies, and fast shipping.

I started with a small compressor, but you really have to go slow and not outrun the air supply. Finally decided to step up to 60 gallon tank, and higher capacity compressor.

+1 on drier! I run 2 of them to be sure plus disposable one at gun.
