Default Module located beneath dash

In my 2000 Ram 1500 there is a module located on the trans tunnel directly beneath the dash. It has a plastic housing over it. Can anyone tell me what this is for? It has a large electrical connection. I'm sure I'll feel real foolish after I find out what it is, but I've looked through the service manual and cannot find an illustration with this part included.

Wait at least five minutes after disconnecting the battery to even touch it. It holds energy for a bit, as that is what it is designed to do.
