if the transfer cases on the first gen were no better you would think you would hear about it more often. i don't think i heard of a truck snapping a transfer case until i started hanging around the 2nd gen section.
first gen trucks also have no plenum problems. leaf spring suspension in all 4 corners on there 4x4's. can't beat old cheap leaf springs.

LA small blocks don't last as long as a well maintained Magnum though. Mine has over 375k on the odometer, and others have over 400,000 on original magnum 318/360s.
2nd gens have better brakes too. They also handle better when correctly maintained.
Just playing the devils advocate here. I am more of a 1st gen fan than 2nd gens, but they aren't all bad trucks (just the 1500 4x4's and anything with a 46re )

but who ever maintained a LA engine that great? most people would have beet them into the ground. my dad had a d350 with 360 and it had a over 500,000km on it before some idiot ran it out of oil.
2nd gen trucks with there stupid abs brakes that probably cause more accident than they stop since it really does nothing when the box is empty.
