my first 2nd gen ram
Hey guys, new here. I have owned and worked on a 89 power ram but this is my first 2nd gen ram. I just recently pick this heap for $1,500!! Couldnt pass it up as all she needs is a dashboard, some O2 sensors and a track bar. Ive never owned a v10 and im excited to see what she got. but im being easy with it for now till i know for sure nothing else is wrong, then i will give her hell and really see what else is wrong lol. All i have done so far is go through and service it. well here she is with a V10 4x4 2500 and all 185,000 miles.
Thanks guys. Yea tranny works BUT it does feel sluggish to me. Like I think it should have way more pick up than it does. But I need to change O2 sensors first. And the track bar isn't letting me get over 40 mph without shaking my teeth out as well as what's left to the dash. Lol The previous owner didn't take care of it more than changing the oil regularly. 95% of the things wrong with it when I bought it I fixed within the first 2 afternoons. Fuses, bulbs, loose plugs, etc... Bunch of random stuff you can tell he didn't even try to fix. It wasnt his DD, but it isn't my DD either. Some people just don't give a hoot I guess. Before him a trucking company owned it as their service vehicle. The miles or fairly low but I'm afraid the hours are high. I can tell it was rigged to idle a lot. 2 electric fans outside of radiator. Random toggle switches everywhere, on dash, in fuse box, near tail gate, along with some 12v power outlets on rear bumper. Hope the tranny is ok, I did a filter change and adjusted that band (still need to do other one). There was some sludge around the magnet but idk what a normal amount would be but I would say a tablespoon or so maybe a lil more but not much. I may try changing solenoids after the O2 and Track bar.

One thing you may really want to keep an eye on is all the added wiring. Most people wire by the rats nest methodology. This can create untold nightmares!
It is normal to have some sluge particles on the magnet. The amount depends on how many miles on tranny and how long sicnce last fluid change and cleaning of magnet. Ther are severla tranny threads here and many of them include photo of the magnet. you can browse through those and get an idea based on these to kind of see what you may expect.
My Ram was totally abused, so I know what you mean by the neglect and abuse. But it cleaned up pretty nice (not cheap, but nice...). Take your time and focus on the critical issues first. Good luck!
