I have the non led version on my 98 and they aren't to bad with some upgraded bulbs, though there is a hollow spot in the light pattern. I also changed out the driving lights for the 99-03 version with the clear lense, easy swap, just have to put the bulbs for the 98 and older trucks in the housings. This setup gives a good amount of light and looks pretty damn good in my opinion. (there's that opinion thing again)
