What about noise levels or resonance and how the tubes are designed to reduce or amplify that sound. What about the 14x3 air cleaner? Tube size? Tube material? Cfm flowed?

I got a Spectre CAI off a guy on ebay. It probably doesn't do anything, just looks good under the hood.

It does do one thing. Sucks in hotter air. Which is OK in the winter actually.

I should add that I have used the K&N drop in filter, worked just fine but a pita to service. I now have a expensive AFE CIA works fine easier to service the filter, seals up well to the hood, but very loud at speed or wot, we hear it over every other sound the truck makes when on the hwy. For me not to have to bend over the motor and fight that stock air box made it worthwhile, I can stand at the pass fender remove the cia filter with a nut driver toot sweet.

I've been really happy with my K&N CAI. It made a huge difference, to me, on the bottom end throttle response. For that much it was worth it to me. '96 5.9L

I was thinking Volant eventually. I never even cleaned my Spectre filter, just blow it out with the air gun.

I think it's funny that there's so many people that believe that bolting a shiny tube in will give them 100 hp and trie their gas mileage

I got ~1.25mpg gain when I fitted my K&N CAI, and a little extra throttle response.
I don't think the CAI has any real benefit over the stock intake... the benefit is in a less restrictive filter element.

That's what I put in. No BS about huge HP gains but when you're pulling hills in the deserts of the SW in summer, any thing to bring in cooler air to the engine will give you at least some HP bump. I'll take whatever I can get. BTW the tube comes out adjacent to the radiator so pulls in air before it picks up any engine heat.
