That's correct, even the best m/t tires get eaten up by a lot of on-road driving although alot of people like the look and run them anyway. I run some toyo open country AT2 tires 285/70/17 on my 2001 ORE and they've held up well so far although I feel the snow/wet traction could be better....thats probably more a result of them being fairly wide tires. They have a nice tread pattern and look good tho so I'm happy with them.

Edit** The tires in my sig pic are NOT the toyos...gotta update that thing

A/Ts are good but don't expect them to do what true off road tires would. But often they are all you need

If you do mostly on road they will last way longer

Ok so I have 17" rims from an 09 on my 99 that I'm trying to get the tiers for. If I can find some that will fit the 17" rims I'd like to do that seeing how I'm a high school kid and don't have much money. From what you guys have said and what I have found it sounds like 285/70/17s comes out to about 32.7/11.22 I don't remember how wide the rims I have are but I believe they are what ever came stock in 09. Someone know if I'm on the right track here thinking that if I get 285/70/r17 a/t tiers they should fit with minimum if any rubbing with stock suspension? Just wanna make sure I'm right before I go out and buy them

285/70-17 is equivalent to 285/75-16. You will be fine.

Aright thanks guys. I think what I have now are 265/75/17s and they don't have any problems so the 285/70/17s shouldn't be too much bigger. Just enough to fill out the truck

Ham_bone -thanks
Last question...
Will 285/75/17s fit or only 285/70/17s?
33.8/11.22/17. 32.7/11.22/17?

Looking for used ones and would be easier if I have a couple choices

You may have some rubbing issues with 285/75/17's

I ran hercules terra Trac A/T tires which picked up for 600 a set, and they look pretty good, without costing a lot, and increasing my towing capacity from 2,400 lbs a tire to 3,300 lbs a tire. They equal a 33in tire, and I have pictures if you like.
I would actually like to see pics if you don't mind! I'm on 275's right now and have considered going 285's on my '01 1500
