Christ wasn't born anywhere near Christmas, Christmas was supposedly either a Pagan or Roman Holiday....

Justin is correct. No one really knows when Jesus was born. But, they chose this date and so it is.

"Researchers believe the Roman Catholic Church settled on Dec. 25 for many reasons, such as that date's ties to the winter solstice and Saturnalia, a festival dedicated to the Roman deity Saturn. By choosing this day to celebrate Jesus' birthday, the church could co-opt the popular pagan festival, as well as the winter celebrations of other pagan religions."

I think Easter also follows a Pagan history of some sort...

It has become nothing more than a year end spending spree. I'm not highly religious, but the reason to celebrate was lost long ago. I just look forward to spiked egg nog.

Jeez guys, you're getting into some of the crap my folks teach. Who cares if Christmas or Easter is a pagan holiday or religious holiday or not. Sorry guys that sort of stuff just brings back too many memories of ****ty life. I ain't even got a Chrismtas to look forward to this year. Chances are there's gonna be a fight or something...

Christmas is a special holiday and time of the year for family to get together, at the very least, and it is the day that was chosen by whoever as a set date to celebrate the birth of Christ, if you believe in that sort of stuff (which I do believe that much at least lol).

But Christmas as a whole is just painful for me...

I'll be on the side of the Interstate this Christmas while my family is in Independence, so it'll be a sucky Christmas this year too.

Yeah but at least it's not the norm for you. Since about 2003 Christmas has been nothing more than a work day around here. No trees, no lights, no gifts (which honestly I could care less about), no nothing. Oh except for maybe a special church service and more than the usual number of Bible 'studies' which really suck, and maybe a special meal that I don't have an appetite to be able to eat anyways...

And Ham Bone, you and your cheetos :P

lol...

It doesn't, except that it has been accepted by Christians to be about him. Practically all of the demigods of antiquity were born at the winter solstice when the sun is "reborn" after the north/south motion of its daily maximum elevation stalls for three days. The setting of the date of the celebration of his birth didn't occur until he'd been dead for a few hundred years (if he ever actually lived at all), and didn't make it to the Eastern (Christian) sects for another century or so.

Ironically, in the time during which he allegedly lived it was considered in his culture to be sinful to celebrate birthdays, so Jesus would strongly disapprove of the celebration of Christmas. And most certainly would disapprove of the pagan traditions associated with it, things like Christmas trees, wreaths, and gift giving.

Easter is a pagan holiday whose name and icons weren't even changed when it was adopted (or in the modern vernacular, "culturally appropriated"). Eggs, rabbits, and so on are all symbols of fertility that have nothing at all to do with a corpse disappearing from a cave or ascension into heaven.

All that said, my perspective is simple: Live like ya want to live but don't be a dick about it.

I hate to think about the number of Christmas's I spent in some country other than the USA!! Most of them sucked hind tit too............................................... . This is going to be a ok Christmas but I pretty much hate this time of year. If I didn't have a kid I wouldn't celebrate anything.
