The Official 2014 2nd Gen RAM Forum OT thread
I just found out I am part British and confirmed the part Irish...
Was tracing my ancestry to find out if I could possibly have ancestry to any UK country. I even traced it down to the house in Yorkshire, England. So I have some distant relatives in England. Now to work on getting official papers on the ancestry and citizenship of that ancestor, and I could quite possibly claim citizenship via ancestry if I wanted to.

Do a search on Charlie Wenzel - tell me what you find.

No it wasn't me either - in the year 2000 I wasn't on a computer yet

Long before anyone had ever heard of Alex Haley one of my mom's cousins got into genealogy in a big way. He was a small time antiques dealer in a small Iowa town who made it big.
Part of the deal of selling junk that other folks have thrown out as trash is to call it an antique and to get what they call provenance {any information on how old stuff is or who owned it and stuff like that} this started him researching the stuff he was trying to sell, at ridiculously high prices, which lead to him trying to find out just who his ancestors were.
He had one of the first computers that had a word processor in it and zillions of 5&1/4” floppies with his documents all typed on them. As time passed he transferred it all to bigger better computers several times. He also got a fairly small copy machine and would take it with him to make copies of any thing he could to bring home and put in his documents.
Since he had the where with all from his antique business to travel around the world he did so. While he was in England tracing down long lost relatives he came across a veryold Bible {at least 100 years old at that time} that was written in German and had belonged the German bride of one of the Danes that were listed in the book} Since his cousin married my dad he was researching all the branches of the family tree and that's why he even bothered to look at this old book.
He made copies and found out they had written birth and death records in the back of it were written in Danish so he went across the channel to Denmark and found more of the folks relitives of the folks who currently owned this book.
They had an even older bible that listed my dads granthers way back to 'Serin the Red' who was a pretty important man in the tribe around 300 years ago. No one is really sure what he did {personally I think he might have been the night fire keeper for the tribe and that's where I got my liking of third shift?} my last name is Sorensen which in the old language meant 'son of Serin' so I guess he is the one responsible for my last name.
Anyway my mom's cousin typed it all into his computers and then had it all printed and bound. He offered anyone in the family a copy for only $100.00 a fraction of what it had cost to get it printed and bound in leather. My own family declined his generous offer but some of the others did buy one. Sometimes I wish there was still one available to buy but after he died his kids told me there were none left. I don't know what he did with them, probably threw them away.
Most of my great grands came from Denmark, Germany, England, Scotland, Holland, and even from Ireland. Once the first one made it over here to the states more of my great grands were here to meet them {that means I gots some American Indian in me too.}
My great grandma on my mom's side was as close to a full blooded Blackfoot and my great grand dad could find in the late 1800's. Back then it was customary for a man to trade the girls father something for her. When times were good a string of pony's and some good blankets and other trade items would go a long way towards getting the father to let you marry his daughter.
Times were tough and all my grand dad could muster was a 50 pound sack of beans and a few used blankets but it was more than her family had before so her dad said sure take her. Family stories say that sometimes when great grand dad would get mad at her for something or other he would shout "Woman,... be still, or I'll trade you back for the beans!"

I know that over 80% of my ancestry is English/Irish/Scottish. I'm an 1/8th German and 1/16 Native American Indian.
My great grandmother came here from Germany, and her son, my grandfather, had to go back and fight the Germans in WW2.

Evidently it's good enough to stick way down there....
