Default Club Cab custom subwoofer box build w/ pics

When I bought my 2001 Ram 2500 a couple years ago it came with the MTX Thunderform dual 10" powered sub under the rear seat...it had a buit in 200 watt amp and added some decent thump but nothing really spectacular and it would just turn into distortion if it was turned up too loud. I recently sold the Thunderform for $300 and bought an Obcon vented pre fab enclosure on Amazon and put 2 JL Audio 10W0v.2 4 ohm subs(300 rms each) in it powered by a JL XD600.1 amp(600 rms @ 2 ohms) and it was a huge improvement over the 200 watt MTX sealed unit but still didn't hit as hard and low as I wanted. Thoroughly disappointed with all of the other pre fab small sealed down firing enclosure options out there, I began designing my own custom MDF/ Fiberglass ported enclosure approx 2.25 ft3 tuned to 35Hz for a pair of Sundown SA-10s that will be powered by a Hifonics Brutus 1600.1 amp.

Here are some pics of my progress so far:

New box build

I had to cut out the carpet from the under side of the seat to gain an additional 2" of clearance for the subs and amp. The seat will go down all the way and lock. I probably won't be re using the seat release handles as I didn't make cut outs in the box to accommodate them.

I cut out some carpet for increased mounting depth

1/2" spacer rings were needed to make room for the massive magnets on the Sundown subs.

Test fitting

It sticks out less than an inch past the seat, slightly more on the corners

Looks good. I've been toying with the idea of making a box myself, but never mustered up the motivation. Although, if you posted dimensions, it might just give me enough inspiration to give it a shot... What are your plans to cover it with?

I will post the dimensions after it's finished and in the truck and I know it fits and sounds the way I want it to...it's been a lot of work so far and my first time fiberglassing.

I want to build one that does not stick out from under the seat.

Actually, I might be interested in your old box and the JLs. I'll PM you later about it

Looks awesome! I have a custom box I bought for 100 bucks from some website. It's been awhile...

The subs are facing the floor so I don't have to worry with anyone kicking them but it does suppress them a little bit. It also sticks out maybe an inch too.

I bought 2 10" Boss subs off amazon for 30 a piece and they do pretty awesome I must say.

Default Question on sound

question. Im using 2 dc audio level 3 10s in the build im doing. And wonder how yours sounds with 2.25 cubes. Because i am needing 3 cubes net. Since nobody will be sitting in the back i can make mine stick out further or utilize the space on the center hump behind the center console to gain additional air space. Anyone can Text me at 832 579 2670. Or pm me on smd @ 77-audio.
i built a fiberglass mold for the side planels so i can get the max airspace. Box will be 53 " wide. And i have modified the handles under the seat to allow that width.
