What? You mean there is a better reason?

Theres no better reason to do a rebuild than for fun!

But what im trying to say is, the issues we have heard so far does not mean that the OP has to do a rebuild. So i am wondering if there are other symptoms that the OP has not mentioned yet.

Ok finally had a day off, and did a compression test...all was good. Between 130-150...so I took the kegger off and yup just as I suspected one good visible blow out on the gasket.

So now that I have it off and in town Im going to fix that issue, and do the kegger modification, and look into some better gearing....maybe 4:10s?!?!? Wouldn't mind a locker either....lol

Decide what size tires you want to end up with, and then pick your gears. Gears are expensive, and a project you only want to pay for ONCE.

Wow what a mess it was...Holy crapola...intake full of oil. My poor engine, now I can see why it was so low on power. Surprised it ran as well as it did....putting everything back together tmrw. Can't wait to see how much better it will run!!

^^ THIS!

Replacing the timing set was one of THE biggest improvements on my truck, performance-wise.

My truck has about 170K miles on it when I did the timing set. That was the only thing that changed at the time. (timing cover was leaking, so, figured while I was right there.....)

I was absolutely astounded at how much of a difference it made. Got back a good deal of power, engine ran smoother, and started quicker.
