Default 4.56s are in!

So, I went to pick up my truck today. Its been in the shop of around a total of 8 shop days. I gave them a little over 1700 dollars for front and rear 4.56s to get done, and that's over twice as much as I paid for it when I first got it. My hands were shaking as I got in it and started it up. As I drove it home, I became more and more aware of how much I paid for it and how little it changed. As I pulled off the interstate because the rpms were too high and my mom said there was smoke rolling out of my tailpipes, I wondered why I keep putting money in it. Is there any way to make these 2nd gens awesome without dumping a ton of money in them?? Im starting to think not

what size tires? How many miles on your engine and trans? Does it normally blow smoke? what other mods you have?

Lots of things go into making a truck come together the way you want. So basically a plan where everything will compliment each other. Then when you get to the end is when you see results.

You couldve done a lot of other stuff to your truck for 1700 dolllars. But i have no idea what shape your truck is in maintenance and mod wise.

I bought it two(ish) years ago and I have done all the maintenance. it is a 318 with 236000 on the odometer. it also has 35s, that's why I went with 4.56s, and there is no O/D in the trans due to a temp sensor being messed up. And after I get all the mechanicals fixed, I still need to address the engine, then the body on the truck still looks like ****. I doubt it will be fully done within the next 5 years or so. Progress is just nonexistent right now

$1700? Wow. Bit excessive ain't it?
So $1700 for new gears and you didn't fix you transmission or address anything else?
Im running 33's with 3:55's. Not bad but not optimal.
From what your saying I sounds like you should've dumped your money into the truck instead of just gears.
So, get your overdrive back and your rpm will come down on the highway.
Engine smoking could be... well. Lots of things.
Sounds like you bought a beater and your trying to fix it up.
Good luck. Its a long expensive trip.
I've done it. A couple times.

You definitely should have felt some type of power increase with them gears. Maybe she needs a top end rebuild/plenum repair/TB cleaned out.

Rduck, it sounds like I did buy a beater, but unfortunately, most things I fix on it are results of something else I did to it, so I guess im partially responsible.
ChillyPhil, that is definitely a possibility, ill take a look at it when I get a chance.
Oh and btw, it also looks like they didn't put the seal in the front axle...that or its residual fluid that is all over the inner fender well. That was what I originally needed fixed and they said they would fix it as well. I guess ill be calling them back

Ya. With a gear set replacement you should've got new seals everywhere on the diffs.
