I ran in the local mud bog yesterday. I dropped down to a set of 36" X12.5" bias ply tires to run in a more appropriate group. The problem is, I didn't finish. I got stuck at 157', 43 feet from clearing the pit. After talking to my family who were spectating, they said my tires weren't spinning fast enough to clean the treads. I ran in 4Low, 3rd gear. I tried 4th gear but the engine couldn't spin my tires, so I dropped back down. I wanna know how to boost my horsepower. Now, mind you, my poor 318 is really tired. My vacuum is so low, the vents on my heating/ac system don't switch. The reason I got this far is I installed a 4X4 Posilock kit on my front axle, because last year my vacuum actuator gave out under full throttle. My current plan is either a Cummins turbo and intercooler or a 390 stroker. Any thoughts?
Are you still running stock gearing? If you do then your little 5.2 may not be as tired as you think it is. Try running 4.56 or 4.88 gears and you will get some power back. If you really want to do it right swap out your stock axles for Dana 60 front and rear. Then also swap out your 5.2 for a 5.9 that you have stroked to a 408.
