Hello everyone, I am new to the dodge world. I recently bought a 97 ram 1500 with the 5.9L, first owned dodge ever! The previous owner gave me a bunch of parts that he suggested replacing, including ball joints, tie rods, and the trac bar. I am a DIY kinda guy, I replaced the steering damper, all the tie rods, and all the ball joints myself. Only thing left is the trac bar, but I have never had to mess with one of those, anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to? It doesn't look to difficult but that does not mean anything at all!!

 

It actually is as easy as it looks. Having a friend to help makes it even easier. I didn't even jack mine up to change it. Took the old one out, got the axle end of the new one in, had my friend push the truck over a bit to line up the frame end, tightened everything down, and off I went.

Air tools make the job MUCH easier.

 

Thanks a lot, I've got all the air tools and about every possible tool you can think of so the tool part won't be a problem. Maybe I'll try and give it a good ole college try today, and see how good it goes! Thanks for the input!

 

Dont forget the first thing to reach for when working on any supsenion component is the BFH.

Well I gave it a shot today, only took about an hr and a half and it was done!! Getting the driver side where it was connected to the frame was a pain, but eventually got it with the pit arm puller. Now have officially completed the whole front end! Thanks for all the help!

 

Excellent! Your truck drive better now? Time for an alignment?

 

Haven't driven it yet, besides out of the garage. Everything feels much tighter since I went through everything. Gonna drive it up here prolly Monday and have it aligned.

 

Just align it yourself.

All you need is a price of string.

And then set caster.

There Are only two adjustments on these trucks. No need to waste money on fancy laser things to mess your truck alignment up.
