Default tutorial on wheel offsets

As i search for wheels along with upgrading to 285's there is a many offset options I would like to know what stock is and I may go to a 17" wheel which I am sure wouldnt change offset.

Offset is calculated, you want to keep backspacing similar.

one site said offset was 0 stock ...i just see a myraid of options along with backspacing
what is stock?

Stock backspacing is 4.5 inches. Have a look here to see what it all means, and where the terms come from.

here is a link where you can play with offset..it on the lower right of the animated wheel and the ET on the numbers is how to change the offset but leaving the backspacing alone..confusing and probabaly over thinking but when looking at aftermarket wheels they ask for offset..
