Default RIP Ram-Rod 2000-2016

What takes down a badass truck faster than anything? A 16 year old girl not paying attention when she's driving in bad weather.

It was a Winter morning in February when I was minding my own business stopped behind a few cars when WHAM!!!!!!!! I was rear ended by some ditsy idget 16 year old girl. Her car was totaled and looked like it slammed into a brick wall. My truck though, had a small dent in the bumper(or so I thought).

For insurance purposes I had to have it checked out and get a repair estimate. That's when things went south. See with insurance they stop the estimate once they reach the value of the vehicle. What I thought was just a dent turned into being complete frame damage. So a $2000 repair became a $10000+ repair. Value of the truck was $2500. So it was a choice to either keep the truck and get less money or get rid of the truck and take a higher amount.

So after a little bit of looking I bought this.

2002 Ford F150 SuperCab XLT FX4 - 5.4L Triton V8 - 3.55 gears - Toreador Red w/Med Graphite bottom paint

Sucks completely that I lost the truck. Hopefully in the future I can get back into one and be active again. Damn I hate young female drivers.

That reminds me of a guy who was t-boned by a 16/17-year old who blew a Stop sign. His truck was a 1996 F150 with the straight six and Ford ceased production of that engine long before the time of the accident.

Have you checked to see if the vehicle has had the heads serviced for the infamous spark plug issues?

Sadly the twit hit me going about 30 in a Chevy Cobalt. Tore her car to shreds. Funny is the damage to the truck was meh, just a bent bumper but the bed had slammed into the corners of the cab and dented them. Then the frame was found to be jacked in several places. Could have kept it as a salvage but the frame being jacked left little reason to since I couldn't afford to keep it.

Yeah. It's been well maintained over it's years. Mileage is high but had my mechanic do a once over and found nothing wrong. I read up about the spark plug issue, rather hilarious the story about random plugs blowing out of their holes. Interior is clean no stains, rips or cracks anywhere. Only a small spot of rust on the tailgate.

Cracked the intake manifold or blew the intake manifold gasket(s). Does it have a running lean code on both banks? Pretty common issue. Otherwise, good engines. I would never ever, work on one as they are a pain in the ***. But thats just me.

Sucks about the ram

I did the opposite, I came from a 99 F-150 XLT Supercab into my 98 Ram 1500. That generation F-150 is a good one, my father purchased the 99 I had brand new and I purchased it from him with about 115k miles on it in 06. I got rid of it with over 185k miles in 2012 and the only things that ever had to be repaired was a shock (I jumped a railroad track that I didn't see, haha), an alternator, and two batteries. Like most American made trucks of that generation, as long as you take care of it then it will take care of you! Sorry to hear about your Ram, but good luck with your Ford!

My old 99 F-150:

Watch the insurance auctions, Your truck will be up for sale on one of them. Even if it's totaled they will sell it to recoup some of their investment. You may be able to buy it back and fix it yourself. Just because they said it's worth X amount doesn't mean it's worth that to you.

The insurance totaled it at $2500??? I just had my stereo stolen and got more than that from my insurance. Never mentioned anything about truck's value. Geez, I would've found a frame shop and kept on going. But that's me.

I've seen a few of those 90s fords and they run a long time. Even a FX4 turns my head.

Ford corrected that issue long ago, I can't remember what year though....

But, good looking truck man!

I understand that; however, the OP's truck may never have been serviced if the problem never manifested.
