Smile cummins 12v dream truck lol

Hey y'all,

So life's here, it's my last year of high school and I'm movin down to South Carolina in January. Because it'll cost more than my truck is worth, I've gotta sell my 99 ram 1500 and buy a different truck. I guess my question for you guys is what is your opinion on what I can expect to pay for a well treated 12 valve cummins. I have dreamed about having one since I first started goin through my gasser and learning everything about these 2nd gens. By the end of winter here I'm expecting to have around 5k put away but I can probably kiss at least 500 bucks good bye for my license, registration, and the tax on it. I don't know much about loans but my parents say I may be able to get one for 1-2k if it's necessary. Just thought I'd post this a little early because I've been doing research but can't find much on this subject.

Thanks guys and have a nice day!

Sorry for being unspecific, for instance maybe a 1995 dodge ram 2500 extended cab 2wd. I've been watching craigslist for the area but the trucks showin up are beaten pretty well. I don't know how a dually would be for a daily driver but they're showin up everywhere. They look pretty mean haha.

A lot depends on where you live.... Around here, if it says "diesel" on the side, minimum price is 5 grand...... even if its a rust bucket. (which most of them that age are....) Best bet is to use something like Search Tempest, or similar site, which will search craigslist on however large an area you want. May end up driving a ways for the truck you want.

I'll bet finding one is SC in decent shape, at a 'reasonable' price would be more likely.... Worth looking into.

Hey thanks for the reply! That was the plan sir haha I live in Alaska here and Northern trucks are all rust buckets here. They'll ask 3 grand for a truck that needs a engine and transmission, speed limit on Kodiak doesn't go over 55. I've been looking at Craigslist but I'll have to look into Search Tempest.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Alaska to South Carolina? Holy smoke, that's a major change of scenery/climate...... Going to school there? Or a job?

Yeah, I would suggest flying to SC, and looking for a truck there.

https://tucson.craigslist.org/cto/5780019742.html

If you have cash in hand and do a comprehensive search, and aren't afraid to go some distance to get one, deals are out there.

I don't think I'd buy a dually unless you really need it. Dually 3500's have a really harsh ride and don't work for crap in the snow unless you are carrying 500 lb of sand in the back. I had an 89 dually. Worst piece of crap truck I've ever had.

I might be going to arizona for a wedding in a month, maybe I should pick me up something like that. Around here that's a $9-14k truck you have posted there. Like others have said, its all about where you live.

If you want, I could go have a look at the one I posted. Things that are too good to be true are often just that. But in Tucson, rust damage is pretty much unknown. If it looked okay, something could be worked out.

I got a 98 Club Cab last month. 5.2 V8. Needed a new engine, which I had in my shed. $150! And except for where there's body damage, it's rust free--such a luxury! (I grew up in Michigan!) I'm driving it now, the nicest full sized truck I've ever had.

Heck yeah it's a change! I'm going to the Diesel Tech program there and my Uncle is letting me start out with him. I wanted to do something different and from what little time I've spent there, I love it down south! The country music, the trucks, the weather, seems like the place for me. Thanks for the reply!
