Coolant stop leak should be illegal
So I think that h$!! froze over up here this weekend and once again I have a 5.9l with a less than desirable heater because of stop leak. I have owned several dodges from this time period and the heaters were all good but the 2 that I used as daily drivers had stop leak put in them and no matter how many time I flush the system and the core I can only get 6months out of it until it starts going down hill. I mean I will do 5-10 system fills with a flushing agent. Last time I actually used a hotsy pressure washer and back flushed the heater core with 180 water for 10mins.
Couldn't agree more! At least they should say on the label what it will do. I got my truck from a dealership with 60k on it. It had a freeze plug that was leaking so instead of fixing it they put that crap in. Had to replace the heater core and radiator. The only way i would use that crap is if i was stranded in the middle of nowhere with no civilization for miles.
On my current truck a friend of mine showed me a trick they used to do at the Caterpillar dealer he worked at they would use hotsy breakthrough detergent. You just pour some in and run it. Since it is designed to be safe on the pumps and hoses in the pressure washers supposedly its safer than most flushing agents. Well so its 8pm on a friday I put that in and immediately my radiator started to leak. There was a good sized hole in that someone plugged with it. By the time I got done flushing it was loosing 1gallon per minute out of that hole with out the cap on to build pressure. Flushed that system so many times and now I'm having the same issues again. Like now it 25 degrees and more than plenty how ever the other day the high temp was -11 and it was -20 for a good portion of the day. Barely luke warm air. Could hardly keep the windows clear better yet warm the interior up.
Riddle me this though if I turn it on max a/c so the recirculate is on that thing gets very hot very fast but the windows fog instantly. I will be flushing again here now that I have some time off.

I'm not gonna lie, shortly after I purchased my '01 (used of course) it began to show symptoms of a heater core leak, totally not willing to pay or do it myself (until absolutely no choice) I did radiator stop leak "treatment", and to this day nothing leaks!
