Default Additives, good or bad?

What do y'all think? I'm looking to get a little debate going on about this, fuel, transmission, engine, good, bad experiences, favorite brands, so on. I've heard it both ways so let's see what y'all think?

Suppose it depends on what you are trying to do. MonteC, our one-time resident trans guru, (he did it for a living) did not recommend using ANY additives in the trans. And, as jkeaton has already stated, most of the other stuff is just snake oil anyway. Kinda like throttle body spacers on port fuel-injected motors...... only thing they really do is lighten your wallet.

Yeah, I like the one for Zmax where they say it penetrates metal and show a piece of porous aluminum with it in the middle. Let's see it penetrate a forged crank shaft!

I’ll throw a can of fuel injector cleaner in every few thousand miles. Gumout is my go to. That’s it though.

i would agree that most are a waste of money. it definitely don't hurt to toss a can of see foam or something similar in the fuel tank once in a while to help keep things in the fuel system cleaned and lubricated. as far as keeping inside the engine clean i rely on shell rotella 15w40 motor oil. i heard lots of good stuff about it before i started running it in my truck and after running it for long enough it seems to have help bump the compression reading to a solid 170-180psi across all the cylinders with not much change with a wet compression test.

The oil companies spend millions developing the additive packages for engine and transmission oil. You could lower the quality of your oil if the super juice you add doesn't agree with the ones already in your oil. Do some research and pick a quality oil. I run Amsoil in everything I own, except the engine of our Dodge. I didn't want to switch to synthetic with 140,000 miles on it. It has Amsoil in the axles, tranny, t-case, and power steering though. I use Sea Foam in the fuel every now and then. I also run some 2 stroke oil in diesel fuel for added lubricity in my semi. It's cheaper than fancy additives.

Just seafoam and Techron. Requirements for our engines.
