Exclamation 2001 Ram 1500 Auto Trannys that bad?

Howdy boys!
I'm thinking of buying this real clean 1500 (2001 automatic, 189,000 miles) my buddy has an 01 and says its common to get transmission issues around 150k miles. Is this always the case or if it was taken care of well do they last longer? I'm brand new to Ram and I would appreciate any input you guys can give me.

It honestly all depends on how they were taken care of and how the previous owner used it. If he beat the living crap out of it then it might go bad soon.

When you go look at one pull out the trans dip stick look and smell the fluid. If it's more brown then red or smells burnt it may have issues or the owner never maintained it.

I have an '01 1500 since new and have yet to rebuild or even adjust the bands (i should do this next time i drop the pan though) on my tranny. I have had the fluid filter change around every 40k miles. It has 180k miles. About twenty thousand miles ago i added an external cooler and deleted the check valve. No leaks and all is well.
