Yes, club and quad cabs were all the rage just like crews are today but you have to think that the regular cabs were still bought in heavy doses by people who needed a long bed for work so they probably are long worn out being used in fleets, farms, and ranches.
What sites are you searching? Cars.com is extensive but autotrader has owner vehicles in addition to dealers. Craigslist can work too if you cut out dealers. Sometimes I'll start in Seattle and keep clicking cities to the east and "walk" across the country to see what's for sale when I drive home.

I'm thinking once the quad cabs came out, Dodge was building less regular cabs. That is my working theory based on the availability I'm finding. It'd be cool to find the build count by body, by year - to substantiate my 2 weeks of empirical evidence! Also have decided I need more West and South West USA friends

Found a decent regular cab 4x4 2500 today. Was a govt truck in AZ, been in OH for about 7 years. Has a little body rust, and a couple bumps, but overall pretty good shape. So I pulled the trigger. Its a 2004, Hemi engine, and basically no options. Its not as tall as the 2nd gen was, but that can be fixed
Haven't decided what I'll do with the 2nd gen. I really like the body style and stance, but just couldn't find what I want.
Guess I'll be transferring over to the 3rd Gen site, gonna miss you guys!

Noooooooo!
Well, there's a lot to deal with. First, the AAM axles are worse than Dana. Replace the ball joints quick with some good aftermarket ones. Second, the steering needs to be upgraded to the 08+ setup. Third, the HVAC systems are horrid. Blend door issues galore. Is it a manual? If not, have fun with that 47re.
But as long as you're happy, enjoy!
