My 2nd gen friends. If you're north of the salt line, get under there and check your U-bolts. I knew mine were getting thin, but they were REALLY thin. The salt, dirt and moisture get trapped in the saddles and it's all down hill from there. All 4 snapped one side, and the saddles are complete toast. Thankfully, we have the parts and repair manuals here on the site and I was able to have the parts I knew I would need on hand before I started.

 

Wow, that could have been ugly if found out out on the road.

 

Another option is to do the u-bolt flip. Requires a bit more work, but puts the nuts on top of the springs.

 

I've seen people just drill holes in a plate
