97 Ram 1500 Cruise Control Problem
I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2l 318 engine. All the panel gages are working, but I have a cruise control problem.
It will turn on (green light works) whether I am setting in the drive way or driving down the highway, but after 30-40 seconds it shuts off by itself and it will not “set” when going down the highway. It won’t come on again until I shut the truck off then start it again.
I took it to the local Dodge dealership, they replaced the 3 switch panel in the steeling wheel, but still the same. They then checked out all the connections and wires, still the same. Then they noticed that after the CC turned off, that there was no electric current in the wire to the “On” switch. And told me that they didn’t understand way, so they supposable informed Dodge, who are making a “Case Study” of it. I haven’t heard any thing for 4 months. Any suggestions?

Grab the factory service manual for your truck from here. Should be a troubleshooting chart for the cruise in there somewhere.... The cruise servo itself is a frequent victim of battery chemicals eating it up.... (its under the battery tray...) Would something like that cause the PCM to turn off power to the switches? Don't know.....
