hello think I'm in right forum. I bought my 97 Ram 1500 about 5 hours ago, it's having a problem shifting. it's has to be in neutral to start and the shifter in steering column is real loose.I was told transmission recently been replaced, I'm hoping just the linkage wasn't set right when they installed it. can anyone give advice on how it should look when assembled correctly and what else I should check. thans

 

Yeah, that sounds a lot like a linkage problem. You can download the service manual for your truck from here. Should have some nice pics of how it is supposed to look, and how to properly adjust it.
