Does anyone know if there are LED fog light pods available for the Sport models? I can find the non sport LED pod fog lights all over, but not Sport specific LED pods. Or is my only option to install LED bulbs? 2000 1500 Sport.

Probably LED bulbs is going to be your best bet. The non-sport trucks didn't get the fog lights.
Lot's of non-sport trucks had fog lights, they were different style from the sport fog lights (except in 98 when the sport had a color matched standard bumper). But yes led bulbs is the easiest option or find an aftermarket round pod thats close in diameter and make your own brackets. If you want more light output you can also install 886 bulbs that are 50w vs the factory 896 that is 37.5w
I guess was a little unclear in that sentence. HIDs use ballasts while LEDs are a true plug n play replacement. The ballasts aren't hard to set up or anything, but placing them were they're safe from the elements is tricky. Better to just go with LEDs where they'll be safe, similar to a regular halogen bulb. I would definitely recommend LED replacements that are a 1-1 size, matching the halogen original.
Led projectors! Led bulbs need to mimic a filament style bulbs. Filament style bulbs have light going out from it in all directions, Led's has it where ever there is a led chip (The yellow things on a led bulb). If you have seen on led headlight bulbs they are placed in different positions to reflect the light similar to a high/low beam filament.
You can look threw the many styles of the 893 bulbs
.
You may opt for something like these. Keep in mind led bulbs need to dissipate the heat they make, Insufficient cooling will burn out the chip. And there are thousands of vehicles with HID's with no issues with the ballasts. Putting a HID bulb in a reflector housing is a big no no! You will blind people! Not to say led's won't do the same, Like the guy with a led light bar on his roof driving on the street. Depends on what type of bulb and what type of housing. Most projectors focus the light on the road not on eyes of the people in the other lane.
Throwing in HID ballasts isn't necessarily an issue. I'm saying that you have to find a secure place to mount it as they're usually not element resistant.
