Well I am having a problem figuring out my pickup. 2001 1500 with th 318 in it. went out today to go to the dump and all was good until later on when I would turn over but not fire. Went to dinner and came back to it and it starts up for me. This happened about a month ago and after sitting for a bit I used it today. I get the truck home and will be checking the plug wires in the morning. When this happened the first time, I had a scanner and said that #5 was misfiring on me, I wonder if it would be the coil? Has anyone had this happen to them, if so what was the fix.

 

If it won't start, one cylinder misfiring would not be a cause for that...... The engine will run fine on 7, you just get a bit of vibration in higher gears. (most notably, O/D)

Need to see what's missing when it won't start. Spark, or fuel.
