Ok...I finally got my first REAL truck...yesterday! So I want all the advise I can get. I am alright under the hood of older vehicles when I have to but I WANT to know all about my truck. I have a 1996 Ram 1500 garage kept with 135k miles automatic trans 2 door reg. cab laramie SLT - thats wll the stuff on it lol. Here's my issue...I put 80 miles on ti yesterday getting to know it and it seems to run freaking AWESOME but 2 times when I turned left it dies but started right back up..today the GEN light came on ad then went off when I restarted it...it came on again when I hit the brakes hard. Also it is only amp'ing to 11 and it idles below 1000...I have no one to ask here so I am asking you guys...I thought maybe the altenator of some little something that might be loose or dirty or ??
anywaz thanks for your patience...I am still a little stoked about my truck...Shadow
FYI ... Ima girl so usually when I inquire about this stuff the guys here completely blow me off ...I hope that doesn't happen here too

These trucks are touchy about voltage. I would take it to AutoZone and have the battery and alternator tested. If both test good then start checking for loose connections. There should be a wire on the back of the alternator that goes back to the battery, make sure it is good and tight. Also check your grounds on the power steering pump bracket, make sure they are clean and tight. And don't forget to check your battery cables and terminals. These trucks usually idle around 600-800 rpm, so you're fine there.

hmmmm..
ok...I went to AutoZone...bought a new battery and had them test it with both testers...the only issue was slightly low voltage (12.39) but my GEN light still came on. And it stiill idles at 450 but there is NO idle issue ... no staling ... no dying ... nothing, I even turned the a/c on, turned on the lights and the radio and tromped the gas. NO problem at all...kinda freaked me out...but I looked at the amp gauge and it suddenly read about 14.5 and it stayed there until I parked it a couple of hours ago. IS EVERYTHING OKAY WITH MY TRUCK...LOL-I know I sound like a sissy whine bag but i LOVE my truck so if you think of anything else for me to check please let me know and thank you for answering my post

In "Her" first post, She posted, "I have a 1996 Ram 1500 garage kept with 135k miles..." Yes, this is a thread to list how many miles is on your rig and not to ask for technical advice. She is new and didn't know. She is excited about her ride.
Oh yeah by the way, I have 127,000 miles (about). I bought it with 125,000 about 2 maybe 3 weeks ago. I try not to drive it because it is a gas hog but, damn! I love driving it!
