Replace the wires one by one (take one off the old cap ... put it on the new one ... repeat 7 times). Make sure you get the new cap seated ALL THE WAY DOWN and straight. We've seen problems here connected to badly seated caps and incorrect plug wiring.
This site has a great diagram for the proper routing of the plug wires in accordance with a Dodge TSB.

To get the cap off you have to crawll over the top of the engine and reach back there with a screwdriver to loosen the two retainers. Getting back on is the same but as already said make sure it is seated properly. Not sure what you are asking in regards to timing since removing cap has no effect. Only problem would be not getting wires back in proper sequence. Your timing is actually computer controlled.

I marked all the wires as to the corresponding cylinder they were attached to. Then I removed the wires and cap as one unit, this way I could ensure proper seating of the new wires on the cap before installation and I didnt have to keep leaning over the engine for each wire. After the initial installation of the cap/wires as one unit it was easy to route each wire in its proper clip one at a time. The only problem I had was ensuring the rotor was seated all the way b/c of the tight fit.

alright so today i went to change it all...... the distributor cap bolts were stripd and so was one coil bolt. ya just my luck.. i tried getting a socket on the bolt back there and couldnt do it. The top bolt on the old coil came out so i took the new one and mounted the bottom bracket on the top of the old coil.... hopefully it works good. I also changed the spark plug wires with my high performance ones. I was just pist off when every damn bolt was stripped......
