Default Spark Plug Woes

Hello

I am a new Dodge owner , 2001 1500 318 4x4 short wheel base,,

Attempted to change spark plugs,, however one of the eight plugs would not accept wrench,,, the plug itself is surrounded by a heat shield that plug wire sort of snaps into,,

My question is,, can these shields be removed and how are they removed ??

Thank you
Kelse

I had a 01 318 that I changed the plugs on a couple of times. Just need a good spark plug socket and long extension to get down in the heat shield. I believe you can pull out the shields with pliers, but I never had to (nor did I want to). Changing those were a breeze compared to my 4.7.

i removed mine. just grab them on the end with a pair of pliers and twist them back and forth.
those shield trap dirt and sand, so before removing plugs its a good idea to blow them out, otherwise the dirt falls down in the cylinders.
