2000 Ram 5.2L Cold Air Intake
Just bought a 2000 Ram 5.2L with crummy gas milage (13.5MPG). One of my goals is to dump the factory and install a cold air intake. Any opinions on whats best for this beast. Ive looked at Airforce One but they dont link for this model truck.
13.5 isn't bad. i'm getting 12. I went with K&N and I like it. sounds better, and helped throttle response. Nothing that i've done though has helped my mileage at all. I get the same mileage now as I did stock. the other thing, is that it doesn't really matter how i drive...foot to the floor or gentle, i still get roughly 12 MPG.

Kevro7, What size tires u using? I bought this truck with 315's which explans some of the poor MPG. I plan on replacing them with the factory recommended 265's. Talking with others and web post the average MPG seems to be from 15 to 17mpg.
Thanks for the reply.....

Kevro7. Yea its a 4x4. Right after I bought the truck from a private owner I did the usual tune up stuff (i.e.) oil change, air filter change, plugs, cap, and leads. I have noticed mpg is slowly improving from the initial 12mpg as this project moves along. Assumming none of the above applies to you, check tire PSI and ensure the pressure is rated for whats printed on the tire!!!!!! Honestly, I'm very suprised at your low mpg as you'v seem to have already done most of the items necessary for good performance and reasonable mpg. Sounds like a good auto detective story...
For anyone that does this, is there any significant increase in torque? I'd think about putting one on my Ram if it'll increase torque, because all I use it for is to pull a trailer.
the first thing i did when i bought my truck:
-changed plugs and wires
-changed cap, rotor
-changed pcv
-changed oxygen sensors
-I run Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30
-changed oil, trans fluid, and differential fluids
I don't know what else could really be hurting me, but i would love to get even an extra 1 or 2 MPG
the only real thing that is hurting me right now is that the torque converter clutch won't stay locked up all the time when driving on the highway. it likes to lock up and unlock.
