If i do go the rebuild route and pay someone to rebuild it i hear people talking about a shift kit? what is this? what does it do for me? and whats a good brand? or type? ive never done any of this, just bought my first dodge 2 weeks ago.
A shift kit is a handful of parts that's installed in your tranny (replacing stock components) to firm up the shifts. The idea is that a "smooth, comfortable" shift takes longer (as in "slips") and is actually harder on your tranny than if it shifted quickly. Less wear on the clutch packs and less heat generated (by friction).
When I was just cutting my teeth on vehicle maintenance, B&M was THE stuff to get. Don't know about now, though.
