Default motor swap

Hi I new to the sight and my question is,after I swapped my 360 for a newer(used)360 my truck now stalls when in reverse.it works fine in drive.Could it be a crank sensor or bad timing??Also my truck is a 98 and the new motor is a 01.Also how can you tell yhe difference between a 360 and a 318 if ther is no markins. The old motor seemed to have more power.Iwas asured that it was a 360.Any help would be great.Thanks...

If the engine that was in your truck was the original engine, look at the sticker under the hood on the frame in front of the radiator. It will tell you what engine you had.

If you had a 318 and have installed a 360, you've several things you need to deal with. I did the swap in my 01 last year so it can work, but it does take a few things extra.

Find out about the engines and let us know, then I'm sure there will be more help here.

if it isnt on the Drivers side valve cover in the front...the block is marked on the drivers side right below the head take a flashlight and shine it up there and you will find the marking...

I am certain that the one that I took out was a 360 5.9 .I will have to get under the truck to look for a stamp. It just doesn't feel like the 1998 360 that was taking out.The one that was put back in was a 2001,will there be problems? But the real problem at this time is that when put into reverce it stalls.the timeing is out 2 degrees.Would this cause the stalling?

Did you get the PCM from the donor truck, as well?

the timing being out 2 degrees would not cause it...timing chain can strech up to 10 degrees and the ECM will compensate

If there is the possibility you swapped a 318 and 360 and did not change theflex plateyou will have a problem. They do not interchange and the crankshaft damper does not interchange. If you're positive it was a 360 for 360 swap, did you use all of your bolt ons: (I.e. fuel rail, distributor, wiring harness, fuel injectors, etc)?
Exactly what did you put into your truck that was not there before? Was it a basic block for basic clock swap, or block, heads, valve train swap?

I did use all the same parts off the old one. There is good news, after the timing was set up again the reverse problem was still there.Moved the crank sensor about a mil... and the problemis gone. The truck seems to be working just fine(so far).
I did not get the pcm from the donor truck ,is this a problem?

Not really a big deal on the PCM as long as the mortors were both 360's you will be fine...
