Default Tranny Help.... AGAIN

I read all the posts i could about my problem and did everthing that everyone said. I adjusted the TV cable, changed fluids, and adjusted both bands. I still have a problem tranny not shifting into third gear sometimes. It depends where i have the gas pedal on take off, all the way to the floor ands its fine or a very slow take off and its still ok. It seem theres a certains spot that the tranny doesn't like and when i hit it with the gas pedal and keep it there it does shift into third until about 3000-3200RPM's. What else could i possibly do? I heard of a few guys adjusting the band farther in for more crisp shift and was wondering if that would work? I am also running the Lucas transmission treatment, but I dont think that would have any effect on it seeing that this was happening before i did everything. All the stuff that i did do to the transmission definatley helped it though because now its not as often, but would really like to fix it permenatley if i can. Please post if you have info on adjusting the bands different than what the manual says (2 7/8 turns) thanks to all that reply, really help when trying to figure out the problem. Truck is a 1995 Dodge Ram with the 46RH trannyand engine is a 5.9L

Mine is doing pretty much the same thing. After running a few miles it tends to clear up and shift right but its getting worse by the day. I have to either let of the gas and coast it to get it to shift to 3rd, or rev the rpm's up much higher than they need to be to force it to shift. My problem appears to be between 2nd & 3rd only.
Its going into the shop tmmr morning and I'll post the results asap.

Try a shift kit, like the one from TransGo, the increased line pressure might be enough to coherce it into working correctly.

Try it ... torque the bands to spec and then back them off a little less than instructed to ... see what happens. If it improves a bit ... adjust them to where you like it.

I went to the top 2 tranny shops in my area today and both places had their tech drive it.

First shop suspected an O ring could have slipped into the valve of the problem gear causing a flow reduction. He went as far to say the recent drop in our local temp could have contributed to it.

Second shop suspected an electrical problem. Tech said after second gear the trans is controlled by a computer. He also said most the dodges they have fixed were broken over a design flaw in the torque converters. Pieces of metal get down into the trans and the next thing you know you've got problems.

My conclusion to all this.....it simply sucks man, alot of stress. I left it at the second shop and their suppose to hook it up to machine tmmr to see if they can figure the problem out for sure. They both said I saved myself some money by bringing it in asap. Driving it to much like this will burn out the clutches.

Get back with you when I get the info on whats really going on from the shop....my wallets already hiding in the corner

Go down to the second shop and get your truck, ASAP. The 1-2 AND the 2-3 upshifts are hydraulic on the RE series of transmissions. ONLY the 3-4 (and TC lockup) is command by the PCM.

You could also see if the little fly swatter that DC calls an auxillary transmission cooler is clogged up. You can take the lines loose and put air to it.

Bill - dont scare me like that ! [8D]

Shop just called, All electrical parts checked out ok but the valve body is bad. They pulled the pan and did a pressure check. The slipping gear failed, tech said air just blew straight threw the valve. I'll know more sometime this evening on what my options are but I may just have it all rebuilt and hope to be done with it.

I got alot of experience with old school motors but I know very little about transmissions. Ive read some basic's here and imagin they apply to all trannys. http://www.familycar.com/Transmission.htm#Valve%20Body

Hopes this all helps in someway.
