Is it the same concept as the engin oil pump?
Nope. You will have to pull the transmission to get to the pump. It sits right behind the tq converter. What kind of noise are you hearing. Is it like a grind noise?
RE: noise coming from the torque converter shield when in reverse?

Thanks agian for the help, i dont wont to take it in yet i spent to much money on it allready .I might try to repair it my self. i pulled trannies and engines out my self on older cars and trucks.
I wasn't saying "no" to you ... I was saying that the pump isn't like the oil pump in the engine and that you can't access it by pulling the pan. I posted before seeing your answer ... sorry for any confusion.
