CAD not working? check your vaccum lines. I'm guessing it worked fine before the swap?

If you 4wd light isn't coming on, then the CAD (Central Axle Disconnect) is not engaged, check for any loose or worn vaccum lines and possibly replace with a hard 1/8" vaccum line. Could have a leak or be collapsing somewhere in line.

Im looking at it right now and the thing that the vaccum lines connect to is loose . Although i don't see how that would have got screwed up when i removed the axle shafts i was thinking that is was some kind of actuator. And eventhough it is supposed to be shift on the fly i have always had to be moving to get the 4 wheel drive to engage, so if you ever got stuck in 2 you could never get it to lock in 4

That's what "shift on the fly" means ... the chances of the splines being lined up perfectly while sitting still is pretty remote. You have to be moving to get the splines positioned correctly so the CAD can lock the axle shaft.
