Default Is this normal?

I got under the truck the other day and I turned the front driveshaft while the truck is in park. Is it normal for the front driveshaft to turn freely without the front wheels moving? Is there something that engages the front driveshaft to the axles when you put the truck in 4wd?

The xfer case was not engaged and the CAD has not locked the right axle halves ... so you were turning the driveshaft, the differential carrier and the right inner axle half ... 100% normal.
