Default some strange headlight issue

Has this ever happened to you? you have your headlights on, and then turn on your highbeams and all is fine, but then you go to switch back to lowbeams and all that come on are parking lights? Thats happened twice to me, does anyone have a clue as to what that may be. Im thinking a possible short in the headlight relay. **note, it also only happened when it was very humid (ie. fog).

I have exactly the same problem. I spent a whole day looking for the problem. It's very hard to find because the problem isn't always there. After testing all the wires I came to the conclusion that there is a bad ground connection somewhere. I think it is in the switch but I'm not sure. The reason I think it was the ground is because when the problem was there I had a larger ohm reading on the wire. Also if you connect the light to ground they are a little bit brighter then when it is just the switch. I'm waiting for something to completly fail before trying to fix it. That way the problem is easier to find.

i dont know about the ground issue, because if it were a bad ground the parking lights wouldnt be on either. Im waiting for it to fail too, thats about all i can expect...though i would hate for it to fail while driving...but whenelse would it happen

If it's not the gound then it's something in the switch. I've thought about just replacing the switch but I hate doing the shotgun approach. Plus I beleive that the parking lights are on a differnt ground then your headlights. At least that what I rember when I was digging into but I could be wrong.

I realize this is an old post but I kind of have the same problem. Except my headlights dont come on at all. I turn on the truck the fog lights and parking lights work fine, but the headlights don't come on. The high beams work just not both of the headlights. Does anyone have any idea of it it's a bad switch or ground or what?

Yep - time for a new High/Low switch... Not the hardest thing to fix, but it's kinda expensive...
