Engine sputters when I put into Drive? Need advise please.
1999 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab long bed with 5.9 liter Magnum engine. Just bought it last month. In nice condition and only has 67,000 miles on it. Had it checked out and everything fine.
Tonight I was driving home. Fortunately I was only 1/4 mile from my house when I came to a stop sign. When I gave it the gas to start up is started to sputter. When I backed off the gas it would seem normal. The lights would flicker as well and the engine would knock and shimmy. I put it in to neutral and it revved and seemed to run fine. As soon as I put it back into Drive though it would act like it was getting flooded almost when I gave it gas. I tested it by putting it into reverse and it seemed fine when I back up for quite a distance.
Thank goodness the guy I bought it from bought an after-marketwarranty that's good for another year. I didn't think I'd need it but now I'm glad I have it.
Any ideas what this issue could be?? This is my first Ram.
