Default Heater core/ AC Evaporator Prices

One of the guys i know on my fire department has done a few jobs changing out the heater core and evaporator. He said he would do it for me for 500 buks. Does that seem like a good price? I'm not totally sure if thats including parts or not, but thought it was. Any thoughts on that price? Should I go for it, or look else where? It's a job i can probably do, but really dont want to do. Especially now being busy with school and work and trying to get the boat back out on the water. Thanks Guys!

heater core is $60-90 at rockauto, autozone, etc.
$500 is pretty fair. its an all day+ job for diy. less for someone that knows what they are doing.
just as an option, depending on money, etc... you said your ac already didn't work. if you wanted to not fix the heat, you could disconnect your heater hoses from the heater core at the firewall, and connect them together with a little piece of pipe. just a cheap idea.
ps.. its probably $750-1000 at dealer.

The only reason I didn't wanna try it is because that whole part on removing the dash seems to be one hell of a hassle. And bein i'm trying to the 2 boats fixed for the season, and have all my finals and what not, i don't have much time so spare lol.

I meant to ask - Should I replace the parts with mopar or can I go aftermarket? Or is it better to go aftermarket?

I got a quote from the dealer and from another shop and both of them quoted me right at 1200 bucks. The labor was 6 hours. They looked in the book and I guess that is what they would charge even if it only took them 3.
