Shocks
Hey - Quick question. I know the back shocks will be easy, but this will be my first time doing front shocks on a dodge. Pain in the ***? What do I have to do? To be honest, i havn't even looked at it yet, but i know my shocks are shot. Theyre still original on a 99. 124k on the truck, its bout time to change em lol.
If it's 2wd, the easiest way is to jack the front of the truck up and let the wheels droop. This will expose the top bolts of the shock and make them easier to reach. Don't remember what size the stock shock nut was but you will need to have a small wrench to hold the shock shaft and another one to loosen the nut. The bottom bolt just remove with a ratchet. The nut has an arm that will keep it from turning on the back side. You can remove the tires if it's easier for you, I just left mine on since my back is so screwed up. Jeff.
very easy, but jack up front end body some so the axle droops and stretches the shock out. this is so that when you remove the 3 bolts on the shock tower, the old (and new) shock is not pushing against the tower. before you put them on is a good time to paint them black if you don't want shiney shocks. lower bolt must be torqued 100# or else it will rattle under you feet. use impact or long pipe. for the rears you will have to lower the spare tire to get at the top bolt on one side.
