No its clearly the TC locking up as with my exhaust it makes it super easy to tell the difference by listening to the amount of RPM drop. Mine drops in RPM about 200-300 when the TC locks up about 2-3 seconds after shifting into 3rd gear, at roughly 35 mph or so. It shifts into OD at about 45 mph, so on my truck there is a pretty big gap between the two.

If you experienced the MPG gains that some of us got, then the device paid for itself within one to two oil changes with an ROI of an extra 2-3 MPG moving forward. Oh, the HP and Torque are significant freebee's. You made the right choice or at least made an investment that puts money in your pocket every fillup.

I put mine on the 93 setting, and there is definentally a power increase... I dont know if its worth the price but its their...

I run regular gas I might add, never had a ping from it. When I first set it to premium I thought I herd something, but never herd it again so I dont think it was pre detonation.

my 01's TC and OD shifts are exactly like this. mine ALWAYS locks tc in 3rd, regardless of OD on or off. the tc lockup is an rpm drop of 200-300, while the od shift is a bigger rpm drop, more like 400.

UPDATE:

This last tank I got an unspeakable 15.029 mpg with no noticable change in driving pattern. I also just put in some Chevron Techron before filling up so we'll see if I can tell any difference in anyway from that.

The Hypertech sounds like a solid upgrade. I think between exhaust, intake and the P3 I'll be content!

I was told that in my 01 the shifting is supposed to be as follows:

1st gear
2nd gear
3rd gear
torque converter lockup - acts like 4th gear
overdrive.

That is the reason the 46re is classified as a 4 speed with overdrive. (5 ratios)

Just passing along the information I was told and I am pretty confident he knows what he is talking about.

I know from direct experience:
1st gear
2nd gear
3rd gear
torque converter lockup
overdrive & TC unlock
TC lockup.
Trucks thatdo city driving that involves stopping at a traffic light then accelerating up to 45-50mph, then on and off the gas then stopping again then accelerating again the TC convertor gets a good workout locking and unlocking.
That was stock but now its not (nice rhyme[sm=yeahsmile.gif]) with the Superchips.

Good info, I am leaning towards buying a Hypertech while I am in Iraq.
I already got new headers sitting in the garage...a programmer and dual exhaust, along with new wheels and tires are on my wish list.

Before buying the Hypertech new, check this site and elsewhere for used ones. You need the Hypertech PPIII - Model # 50005. This is the only one that will work for your truck.

The reason I mention this to you is I am selling my Hypertech - Model #50006 from my 2001 Ram for $200. Not quite half the price of new but close.

At least save some money where you can.
