stock tape player...power but its not working
Ok, I searched for about 2 hrs today and couldn't find anything related to my current problem-...sorry if this has been discussed before.
I have a 98 Dodge ram 5.2ltr. I changed out the factory tape deck and had a cd player w/ the sub and amp...full deal.
Well I am selling the truck so I have been taking it all back to stock. I put back in the factory radio and it all worked. Well I went and tightened up the battery cables, moved it out of the garage and left it there.
The next day the tape player will not turn on..but it gets power. At night I can still see all of the buttons glowing...just no clock. Well I also noticed that my interior dome lights refuse to come on as well...? I checked all the fuses and am positive my battery cables are hooked up tight.
I am basically out of ideas and know for a fact that the tape player is hooked up correctly...I re-checked all wiring.
Every time I try and sell an old car...electrical issues rear their ugly head.
Anyone have any ideas on this??
Thanks in advance

I had the same issue. I was looking for a 12v source of power under my seats and grounded out a red wire that popped something near the fuse box that infact sounded like a fuse blowing. Oddly I couldnt find a fuse that was blown but my dome light & radio + its display wouldnt come on. I checked and rechecked all the fuses in the dash panel as well as under the hood but still couldnt find anything blown.
There is a set of wires that run under the seat from the drivers side door. You should be able to see it coming threw the carpet directly under the drivers seat. In that bunch of wires "about 8" there is a red hot wire and and a blue hot wire the rest will not light up a test light. The red one has 12v power all the time and this is the wire that is given you the problem. The blue one only has power when the key is on. I rerouted a new 12v wire directly from my fuse box to that red wire to resupply constant power to it. It appears there may be an inline fuse somehwere that connects the red wire to the fuse box. So basically I just bridged the gap and all has worked fine. I used the power windowsfuse slotin the fuse panel since it had 12v and I dont have power windows.
Good luck, it only took me 20min to do this and its been fine every since.
