Hubs
Alright...I am so fed up with my truck blowing hubs left and right....WTF? I have replaced 4 pass. side and the driver side is making noise like it's going out again, which will make 5 times for it! The truck has never been wrecked or off-roaded anything more than mild trail riding. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Granted the truck has been a moneypit from day 1, but I just can't understand what would make something like that go bad so quickly? It's burnin a hole in my wallet!! A little help would make me happier than a tornado in a trailer park! Thanx ya'll
I feel your pain. I'm about $1000 into a brake job that ended up including hubs and front U-joints, and it still isn't right. I used Timken hubs/bearings from AutoZone which were about $210 each. Timken used to be a good name and we'll find out if they still are.
Things that I think could affect bearing life might be things like thosehuge tires and even bad U-joints in the front axle. Have you changed/upgraded those? You might also want to check to be sure the vacuum unit on your front axle disconnect is working properly. And from your photos, I'd say that's a little more than "mild" off road work you're doing. Between that and the big front tires, perhaps that's just working the bearings too hard.

Yeah it does get me pretty much anywhere I want to go, but i've only had the lift for a couple months now...and had the last hub assembly installed with the lift because it was bad.....somebody said before that my wheels could cause it? I just don't understand how they can be that weak! I'm just glad I have a motorcycle so I don't have to dick with it right now...just trying to figure something out
It looks like your tire stick out far. That puts ALOT of strain on the unit bearings. Its like trying to hold a 50 foot weight on the end of a poll 10 feet long vs holding the 50 pounds right in your hands...the momemt of inertia is great, so this means lots of stress on the unit bearings.
The only bet is to find some lifetime warrenty unit bearings or find that hub conversion kit they make. Its expensive but it'd be pretty cool to have.
