RE: Hypertech vs Stage 1 Jet Power module
I'm thinking about purchasing the Hypertech programmer as well, but I'm concerned about pinging issues with mods as mentioned by other members. Would like extra power for towing. Considered a custom reflash, but I heard it is not recommended for heavy towing. Everything I've heard regarding the jet chip has been negative.

after putting a hypertech (set for 87) on my 01 it pinged bad. 3923 did not help. 91/93 octane stopped the ping. fixing plenum and replacing timing chain allowed me to go back to 87 octane and no ping. i don't know if it was the plenum or the chain or both.

RE: Hypertech vs Stage 1 Jet Power module
I have the hypertech and it pinged really bad off the get go with just a little throttle. Then I switched to 89 and it was a lot better but I hated running 89 when you're supposed to use 87. So I heard it may be a bad pcv valve and stuck a new mopar one in and trashed the fram crapper and now ping is gone with 89 and about half there with 87. The ppIII definately made a difference on the highway and mileage increased about 1mpg. Plus I adjusted for the bigger tires which corrected my gauges.
Heard nothing good about jet chips.

Hypertec 87 has done what I wanted. No pinging on 87 with 87; increase in MPG and significantly less shifting while towing. It was the first mod I did so I know it worked.
As for 87 setting versus 91/93, well you need to decide where you need the power. Looking at the dyno chart for my 2001, 87 produces more torq and HP than 91/93 in the lower bands... say until you hit 2750 or 3000 RPMs. I stayed with 87 since I tow a trailer and never get to those RPMs unless I am pilling a big hill.
I am sure the SuperChips programmer is a good product as well but I have no experiemnce with it.
