180* stat/hyperpac
I ve done the searches so dont eat my head off. But i cant fing what im looking for. First is the stat. I chaged mine out to a 180* stat awhile back with no problems and now my cel is staying on with a code saying the temp is not reaching op temp. What can i do about that? The hyperpac would be an aweaome addition but the hypertech page sayes there is not one for my truck. But ive seen where zeekxxx ordered one (his modle number would be the same as mine)and everone else says they are looking to buy one. Maybe im missing something?
the majority of the people that install a 180* stat don't have this problem, but you're at least the 3rd or 4th on this forum that has recently posted they got the cel. someone somewhere wrote that there must be a relationship between the engine temp coolant sensor and the intake air temp sensor. they thought so because they lived in a very cold climate where their truck never even got warm during the extreme cold and the cel never came on. both these sensors are in the intake manifold. IAT (intake air temp) sensor is up sort of high on passenger side front and easy to get to. coolant temp is on the very front, next to the heater hose. i changed mine while i had the top and front stripped, so i don't know if it can be easily changed without removing a bunch of stuff or not.
does your temp gauge come up to about the 1/3 mark within a reasonable amt of time, or does it seem like it take a long time, indicating that the stat might be stuck open, or opening too soon. if you take the stat out, try testing it in a pot of water on the stove with a meat thermometer to see if its opening at the right point. i'm just wondering if you have a bad stat, inaccurate coolant temp sensor, inaccurate iat, or different pcm software that doesn't tolerate the 180.
as i just wrote the above i wonder if the stock pcm software won't tolerate the 180 and the hypertech programming is what eliminates the cel.
does anyone else WITH STOCK PCM have a 180* stat ? what is your result.

I am one of the minority that has the CEL problem with the 180 stat. It has been several months and I am still bitter about it.[:@]Maybeit's because I have not beento the racetrack for several weeks to get my road rage therapy. Yea, that's it.

Anyway, I will be reinstallinga195 stat. My truck sets the code if the temp dips to 176deg. How do I know that? because I have my laptop plugged into my truck with a realtime engine temp graph running while I drive. I haven't "felt" any performance improvement with the 180.

i don't think there is any perf improvement to be had. i think it just slightly reduces tendency to ping.
i see you have superchips. do you think that could be related ?
I put in a 180 t-stat about 2 years ago. I have never gotten the CEL code for it It did partly cure my pinging problem I was having back then but not all of it. In January when I fixed the plenum leak and replaced my timing chain I put in a new 180 t-stat. I still don't get the light but the truck does take a long time to warm up. Even while pulling the trailer on the hwy, the engine just doesn't seem to get to full operating temp. I am going to put the 192 back in and see if I have any problems during the summer. I'm thinking that now that some of the other problems have been fixed and the truck is running really good that the standard t-stat should be fine. Jeff.
Stock PCM for me, 180 T stat went in last monday 5/21. I had the shop do it while the truck was there. I've got no CEL.
