rear brakes locking up
I just bought a 1997 dodge ram 1500, On the way home when i was brakeing the rear brakes would lock up if i braked fast... I have a dirt driveway and it is steep when i was coming down my driveway i saw the left rear tire locking up when i braked... It is just the left tire,, what should i look for??? anyone have this happen to them??
Mine is doing the same thing... only sometimes...
Monday, I am fixing it...
What it is on mine is the rear adjuster is sticking... so im going to take everything apart and just clean it up real nice...

It could be a number of things from shoe/drum contamination with oil (or brake fluid), or grease, to a broken spring or even an aduster problem. The only way to know for sure is to pull the drums and have a look.
My '01 just started doing that, both my rears, I get on my brakes normally, and sometimes I stop normlly, other times, my rears lock like I stepped on the E-brake. I pulled both the drums, and can't figure it out. WTF?
The '98 I'm looking at did it the first time I drove it, but didn't do it the next time I did. This won't keep me from buying it, but getting some good info won't hurt.
I just got done doing my brakes (front and back...)
There was a few linkages that were bound up in the rears, one wheel cylinder was stickyer than the other, but they seemed fine...
Got everything together and the improvment in breaking is huge (it all came from the backs) and now in gravel if I punch them, the fronts lock before the backs, and just a slight delay after the rears lock they start pulseing from the abs.
Everything is perfect.
I would just take everything apart, and clean... make sure nothing is bound up.

also is there a way to adjust the parking brake cable. when the parking brake is on it barly stops the truck from rolling, the pedal goes to the floor...
